DPP Day 6 {Mozambiquan beans & rice}

For the majority of my childhood, I lived in Mozambique. The staple food where we lived in the north of the country was beans - eaten either with rice or a thick porridge called shema. Sometimes I get a craving for a hearty bowl of beans and rice, and today was one of those times. I cooked up some black beans with tomatoes, onions, garlic, cumin and several other herbs and spices, and served it up with rice. I forgot how long beans take to cook, though, so we ate dinner really late tonight!

  1. Yumm... That stuff put me off beans for life. But then I was a fussy lad.

  3. Lentils mostly. And I quite like millet too. Mum was pretty inventive.
